Celebrating Our Survivors: Mona Isaacs
I think this is my most well written story. Mona Isaacs was a great interview and her openness led to a great, candid story.
Faculty sets out to inspire students local love for archaeology
This was an interesting story where I got to go out and watch people participate in archaeology on their day off. The subject was very interesting and essentially wrote itself.
Online enrollment grows despite overall decrease
Writing this story proved interesting because of the depth of the topic but limited space. I filled a notebook and interviewed five people who didn’t even make the story. It was a great lesson in reporting.
Student found dead in Telford Hall
Covering breaking news in college is difficult because generally breaking news entails some silly student senate scandal or a fraternity hazing misstep advisers and faculty have prepared student journalists to report. With that in mind, I did what to report on a tragic death without being indecent or callous to a grieving family and university community.
Judge rules Center documents to be released
I scanned through 700 pages of open records to write this story. It was one of the more difficult stories I’ve had to write because of the subject and legal issues.
